外商主管常說please show him the ropes，不是要你拿繩子！真正的意思是？

公司來了新人，主管請你"Please show him the ropes."千萬不要以為是要拿什麼繩子，如果這樣回答就糗了，"What Ropes? I don't have any ropes."

Show someone the ropes的意思，是教…（某人）如何工作，是商場常見的表達。

Please show him the ropes.
（X）請拿繩子給他。
（O）請告訴他要做什麼（怎麼做）。

這裡的rope意思是規矩、繩準、準則。如果想請教別人，可以說：
show/teach someone the ropes（指導….做事）
Would you be available to teach/show me the ropes?（你有空指導我怎麼做嗎？）

如果要表達很熟悉某項工作、很有經驗可以說：
know the ropes 很熟悉......（流程、工作內容）

如果是新手，還在學習的人，就可以說：
learn the ropes 學習做事方法

舉例：
How's the new job going?（新工作如何？）
Great, my supervisor wanted me to learn the ropes before I start doing anything more sophisticated.（很好，我主管要我做複雜的工作之前，先學一些基本的工作方法。）

如果你已經是know the ropes的人，要show the ropes給新進同事，你可以這麼說：
watch what I do for a while（看一下我怎麼做。）
why don’t you make a start on this?（不如就從這個開始吧？）
