目的、緣故、利益|sake

愛喝酒的人都知道 sake 指的是日本清酒。但其實 sake 也有「目的、理由」的意思，經常以 for the sake of 的形式出現。 for the sake of（somebody／something）指的就是「爲了（某人／某事）的利益」，所以 The company has put lives at risk for the sake of profits. 指的就是「公司為了利潤而冒危險」。

• John did it for his own sake.
  約翰為了自身的利益而做這事情。
