「Please Q here.」是什麼意思？出國排隊買東西，講 wait 老外會一頭霧水

Michelle 到新加坡出差，在一家店裡排隊等候，一面跟同事聊天，有個工作人員走近說「Please Q here.」

因為是口語，Michelle 沒有聽得很清楚，是 Q 什麼？

她心想，難道是叫我們安靜（quiet）嗎？聽說新加坡是一個嚴謹城市，餐廳裡不能太吵嗎？同事解釋才知道，「Please Q here」的 Q 就是 Queue 的諧音，是「排隊」的意思。

Please Q here.

=Please queue here. （請在此排隊。）

Please Q here 的指示牌在新加坡隨處可見，台灣人習慣用的是 Wait，wait 只是叫人等候，並沒有排隊的意思。

在英國，「排隊」用 Q／queue

Queue 這個字，台灣人比較陌生，在英國、愛爾蘭是小學一年級就會懂的字，否則老師就很難教小學生排隊了。這個字看上去不好念，其實是字母 Q 的念法──[kju]。

Queue 當名詞是「行列、隊伍」。

1. 和 join 搭配，join the queue 是排隊。
   Join the queue if you'd like to order.（想點餐的話請先加排隊。）

2. 搭 jump，jump the queue 是插隊。
   It makes me mad when someone jumps the queue.（有人插隊的話我就會很生氣。）

Queue 作動詞時則指「排序、排隊」。　

• The fans queued up for the new product. （粉絲們排隊等新產品。）

Queue 還有延伸用法，不一定是真排隊，而是指很多人。

• There's a queue of people wanting to get the job. （有很多人等這要這份工作呢。）

美國人更愛用 line

相對於英國人的 queue，美國人更愛用 line。

1. 「排隊」美國人說 wait in line 或 get／stand in line。
   I had to wait／stand in line for two hours to get the tickets. （我得排兩個小時的隊才買到票。）

2. 「插隊」是 cut in line。
   Don’t cut in line. Please go to the back of the line. （不要插隊，請到後面排隊。）

另外，在影集中常聽到的 butt in 也是口語的「插隊或是插嘴」。
