外國人說 ”Give me a shout.” 不是要你大聲喊叫！

Ben 和澳洲同事吃午餐，兩人吃完飯走出來。外國同事說：
“I'll shout you a drink.”
Shout? 喊叫？外國人點飲料是用喊叫的嗎？Ben 看著老外手拿著一杯飲料走出來，沒怎麼喊叫。
原來 “shout you a drink” 跟喊叫沒有關係。

1. “I'll shout you a drink.”

（Ｘ）我來喊叫，你來喝飲料。
（Ｏ）我請你喝一杯飲料。

＂Shout＂大家熟悉的意思是「大聲說話、大喊大叫」。

• There's no need to shout, I can hear you.　沒有必要大聲喊叫，我完全聽得見。
• Shout 也可以表達「支付款項、請客」的意思，是澳洲或紐西蘭較常見的用法。
• Let me shout you a drink.　我請你喝一杯吧。
• It’s my turn to shout.　這次該我請客了。

Shout 當請客時，也有名詞的用法：
It’s my shout.
（Ｘ）這是我的呼喊。
（Ｏ）這次我請客。

• Would you like another drink? It's my shout since you bought the last ones.
  你還想再來一杯嗎？上幾杯是你請的，這次我請。

• Do you want to come to the new restaurant with me? It is my shout. 想和我一起到新餐廳吃飯嗎？我請客！

2. Give me a shout.

（Ｘ）給我來一次喊叫。
（Ｏ）告訴我吧。／聯絡我吧。

"Give me a shout" 是一個常見的口語用法，意思是「告訴我」或「聯絡我」。相當於中文裡的知會我一下，讓我知道一下。當我們想和朋友或同事安排見面時，就可以說：

• If you’re free this weekend, give me a shout.　如果你這個週末有空，聯繫我。

想讓對方知道你願意提供幫助時，也可以用 "give me a shout"。

• Give me a shout if you have any questions.　如有任何問題，隨時告訴我。

希望對方在某個時間點聯繫，可以這樣說。

• Give me a shout when you get there.　到那裡時，告訴我一聲。

3. I want to give a big shout out to….

（Ｘ）我想要對… 大喊。
（Ｏ）我要向…. 表達衷心的感謝。

"Shout out" 字面意思是「喊出聲音」，引申為「公開表達致意」，用來表達感謝或致敬，常見於公開場合、媒體，特別是在頒獎典禮。

• Shout out to my best friend for always being there for me.　感謝我最好的朋友一直陪伴在我身邊。
• I want to give a shout out to my old English teacher, who got me interested in drama in the first place. 我要特別向我以前的英文老師表達感謝，他讓我開始對戲劇產生興趣。
