路標上寫著 No standing，是指不能站在底下嗎？

Maggie 到紐約出差，和外國朋友走在路上，一路上都看到告示牌上寫著＂No standing＂，她覺得很奇怪，交通規則居然還有規定不准站在哪裡的，就問朋友，為什麼＂No standing＂。
原來，stand 還真不是「站」的意思。

1. No standing.

（Ｘ）請勿站在這裡。
（Ｏ）禁止停車。

＂No standing.” 裡的 stand 在這裡的意思，與其說是站，更接近「停靠」。Stand 當「停靠」的用法，來看例句：

• The train now standing at platform 8 is the 15:17 for Cardiff.現在停靠在八號月台的是 15 點 17 分開往 Cardiff 的火車。

No standing 是「禁止把車停靠於此」。這和 no parking 有何不同呢？

在美國，禁止停車按嚴格程度可分三種：

1. No parking.
2. No standing.
3. No stopping。

“No parking!” 的 parking 大家應該很熟，不可停車。這個標示表示，雖然不能停車，但臨時停一下還是允許的，例如司機還在車上，必要時，可隨時移動車子。

“No standing!” 稍嚴格一點，就算司機還在車上也不行，只可短暫讓人上下車，馬上得開走。

“No stopping!” 最嚴格，無論如何都不能停。
在交通十分擁擠的大城市，這三種標示都算常見。

2. Let me stand you a drink.

（Ｘ）我們站著喝杯飲料吧！
（Ｏ）讓我請你喝杯飲料吧！

Stand 當動詞，有「招待、請客」的意思， "Stand someone a drink" 是口語表達，意思是請某人喝一杯酒或者付酒錢，用來表示善意或者熱情款待。

• I left my wallet at home, so could you stand me my lunch? 我錢包放在家裡，午餐你能請我嗎?

• I really appreciated your help today. How about I stand you dinner after work? 今天很感謝你幫忙。下班後可以請你吃頓晚餐嗎?

3. Don’t worry. I can stand the heat.

（Ｘ）別擔心，我可以站在很熱的地方。
（Ｏ）別擔心，我耐得住。

Stand 在這裡意思為「忍受」。“Stand the heat”是指「吃苦耐勞、經得起考驗」，這個用法來自於一句成語「怕熱就不要進廚房」：

• If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.。

“Stand the heat”常用於強調一個人的冷靜、耐心和應變能力，特別是在壓力高的情境下。例如：

• She really knows how to stand the heat in the fast-paced world of finance. 她真的知道如何在快節奏的金融世界中受得住壓力。

• The CEO's ability to stand the heat and make tough decisions played a crucial role in turning the company around. CEO 能夠受得住壓力並做出艱難決策，在扭轉公司局勢中扮演了至關重要的角色。
